2023 Topps MLS Major League Soccer Gets Messi

2023 Topps MLS has a lot of new things in store. That said, the biggest addition is the inclusion of, arguably, the biggest star soccer has ever seen — Lionel Messi.

Hobby boxes promise three total autographs or memorabilia cards plus a handful of additional inserts.

2023 Topps MLS Checklist Overview

The base set features 201 cards covering stars from across the league. Included on the checklist is another 25-card Pitch Prodigies installment, highlighting the top MLS rookies.

Parallels include:

• Soccer Tile – 1:4 packs
• Blue Foil – /99
• Green Foil – /75
• Gold Foil – /50 (hobby only)
• Orange Foil – /25 (hobby only)
• Red Foil – /10
• Black Foil – 1/1

Some cards also have Image Variation SSPs. These have their own one-of-one Black Foil parallels.

Autographs, Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts

Base Autographs are where the vast majority of the product’s signatures come from. Blue Foil (/99), Gold Foil (/50), Orange Foil (/25), Red Foil (/10) and Black Foil (1/1) make up the parallel mix.

MLS Relics include memorabilia and have additional Blue Foil (/199), Green Foil (/99), Gold Foil (/50), Orange Foil (/25) and Black Foil (1/1) versions. Some also have scarce autograph versions.

Other tough memorabilia offerings include Nameplate Patches (/4 or less) and Team Crest Patches (1/1).

Five standard insert sets are on the checklist, a couple of which are tough pulls.

Topps 1983 Futbol is the product’s nostalgia kick. Landing every fourth pack, these take the 1983 Topps Football design and gives it a soccer spin.

New Kitcore cards highlight MLS uniforms while The Top Shelf Terrors spotlight stellar strikers. Both of these are 1:6 packs.

Big City Strikers (1:144 packs) takes the goal scoring concept and mashes it together with a cityscape of where the star plays.

Pearlers are case hits, falling 1:288 packs. They’re done on Topps Chrome stock and, again, showcase scoring leaders.

All five of these insert sets have a similar mix of parallels: hobby-exclusive Oranger (/25), Red (/10) and Black (1/1).
