FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I submit cards for grading?

Bring your cards to the shop at 1833 Dean Rd in Jacksonville. We'll look through them with you, talk about which ones are worth submitting, and help you pick a service level. From there we handle everything — inspection, cleaning, prep, paperwork, shipping and PSA communication. You get milestone updates by email until the slabs are back in your hands.

Is the review free?

Yes. Bring your cards in and we'll go through them with you at no charge and tell you honestly which ones are worth grading. There's no obligation to submit.

What service levels do you offer?
  • Standard — $75. Cards valued up to $1,000. Roughly 90–100 days.
  • Priority — $95. Cards valued up to $1,500. Roughly 70–80 days.
  • Express — $240. Cards valued up to $2,500.
  • Super Express — $400. Cards valued up to $5,000.
  • Premier and Premium. For cards valued at $10,000 and $25,000 or more. Come talk to us — high-value submissions are handled individually.

Turnaround times are PSA's estimates in business days and can move. Prices vary based on PSA specials, so stop by or call for current numbers.

What optional add-ons do you offer?
  • High-resolution pre-grade photos — $5 per card. Taken after prep, before the card ships.
  • Detailed cleaning — $10 per card. Slab-ready deep clean for high-value cards.
Why does this cost more than submitting to PSA myself?

Because the price covers more than the grading fee. Every submission includes inspection, cleaning with safe card-care materials, pre-screening for grade potential, full prep with fresh sleeves and semi-rigids, completed PSA paperwork and data entry, FedEx Two-Day Air both directions with tracking and signature confirmation, and declared value coverage.

Handled on your own, the shipping and coverage alone would come close to the difference — and you'd be doing the prep and chasing PSA yourself.

This is a convenience service, not a profit center. The price reflects what the work actually costs us to do properly.

Why does the service cost more on the faster tiers?

Coverage. Higher service levels exist for higher-value cards, and declared value coverage runs $1 per $100 — so a card covered to $5,000 costs five times more to protect in transit than one covered to $1,000. That's nearly the entire difference between our tiers. The prep work is the same; the protection isn't.

We pass coverage through at $1 per $100. FedEx's published rate is $1.40 per $100.

What is pre-screening, and why does it matter?

Before anything ships, we estimate how each card is likely to grade. If it won't come back well, submitting it is money spent for nothing. Catching that first is the single biggest thing we do to protect your return.

For modern cards (1980 and newer) we approve cards we estimate at 9 or 10 and reject estimated 8s and below. For vintage sports, high-profile rookies and vintage Pokémon, we approve when the potential value clears the grading fee. Pre-screening is an experienced estimate, not a guarantee — no one can promise a grade.

What happens if a card doesn't pass pre-screen?

It comes straight back to you and there's a $5 post-screen reject fee. That fee exists so you're not paying a full grading fee on a card that was never going to grade well.

How do I track my submission?

Through SlabTracker. You get an automatic email at every stage — received, screened, shipped, graded, returned — so you're never wondering where your cards are. You can also check status any time on our Track PSA Order page.

Are my cards covered while they're shipping?

Yes. Insurance is required both to PSA and back. Every submission ships FedEx Two-Day Air with tracking and signature confirmation, and carries declared value coverage.

We pass that through at $1 per $100 of declared value and then discount it — FedEx's published rate is $1.40 per $100. We also take pre-shipment photos of your cards at the time of submission.

Can I submit bulk?

Not right now. PSA has temporarily paused all value bulk submissions.

We will be accepting bulk cards and prepping those orders so they're ready to ship the moment PSA reopens the tier. Follow our blog, Instagram, X or Facebook and we'll announce it as soon as we hear.

Can you get autographs authenticated?

Ask us about dual service, which covers both the card and the signature.

Do you offer a discount on larger submissions?

We did offer a discount on submissions of 10 or more cards while the bulk tier was open. With bulk paused, larger submissions are handled case by case — talk to us and we'll work something out.

When do I pay?

Payment in full is required when the cards are picked up. You're welcome to pay in full at drop-off instead. Larger submissions may require a deposit.

Cards not claimed, picked up or paid for within six months of returning from grading may be sold or disposed of.

Is there a minimum?

There's no minimum number of cards. We aggregate submissions from multiple customers to keep the cost of getting cards to PSA down, so a single card is just as welcome as a stack.

Can I mail my cards to you?

Yes. Email sales@dickandjanes.com and we'll send you instructions before you ship anything.

What if a card is damaged or lost?

Every submission is insured to the maximum declared value for its service level. In the event of a claim, insurers settle at the lower of current comparable sales or replacement value — that's standard across the industry, not specific to us.
